In 2014, I collaborated with Jesen Tanadi to art direct and brand the Cranbrook Academy of Art's Graduate Degree Exhibition. The theme "Tools of the Trade" uses the ideas of tools and process as a means to create connections between students across the academy. We created museum wall graphics, outdoor banners, invitations, and the degree show catalogue.
The catalogue features the work and personal statements of the 75 graduates of the Academy, spanning ten disciplines within art, design and architecture. The book includes portraits of each student holding a tool from their practice, as well as custom-drawn icons that represent the other tools they use. The icons depict both concrete objects and abstract ideas, such as coffee, 3D printers, failure, and ignorance.
